It wasn't planned that we would be in Montana for the cattle drive, but we were lucky indeed! Thanks Uncle Bill and Aunt LaRee, for your fine hospitality!
please note: no cowboys or cowgirls used the ladder in this picture to get on their horses. I think it was along for some repairs or something at the cabin. I like the contrast of the shiny aluminim with the rustic surroundings. Kinda makes you think about the possibilities...
Home Sweet Home...for the herd anyway.
Yes, we are home in California at last and into the coming of fall. Summer flew by and then hurriedly presented us with "Back to School".
But I must apologize to some of you for making you worry about us. The smoke and ash was just awful around here and the internet connection (satellite) was the PITS, so off we went to visit our family in Idaho & Montana, our home away from home and the perfect getaway. Of course we had to make stops along the way to catch up with all my sisters and brothers. Boy do I ever get homesick for my family...
The weather was wonderful, just the perfect reprieve from our scorcher. The highlights of the trip were too numerous to mention so I will minimize the list.
* Blackfoot Idaho and a quick tour of my son's workplace. I was blown away, it's a new facility for this huge welding shop where they produce some awe inspiring projects.
* Butte Montana and the National Folk Festival, great music, wonderful venue, lots of walking so plan ahead next year!
* Fine Antique shopping in Butte Montana at Brian Mogren's REDISCOVERIES (no website). His collection of vintage clothing is THE BEST! You can even rent it, how about that! I wanted to rent some barkcloth drapes with huge cabbage roses for a photo session... just kidding.
* Wheat Montana, I would drive 200+ miles out of my way to pick up their 7 Grain Cereal or gigantic Cinnamon Rolls! Well, I guess we did drive 2300 mi to get their stuff...

We are right in the middle of the Northern California fires and the smoke is so thick that I can't get photo files of any reasonable size to upload without timing out. Living in the country and relying on satellite is just not working today...
and it's quite frustrating to get constant satellite outage messages!
I will keep trying to get the party photos up and the items for my drawing.

She Had a Habit of Hoarding Hats
The Illustration Friday Topic this week is Hoard. I don't hoard hats or any other items of clothing for that matter. But if I were a clothing hoarder it would probably be hats.
Now if we were to talk about art supplies, antiques or ephemera, well, that would be another thing... that's all I'm going to say about that, for this could be a very personal and soul searching topic.
Say, what nice weather we are having...

Only six basic images -- a simple composition, but I never know when to stop! I just go crazy adding one more application or filter, then I ask myself, "What about this texture or what happens if I do this, or hmmm, maybe I should crop it", that sort of thing can go on and on and I just need to say... fini, no mas, done!
This rendition was cropped and stacked -- okay, the project is done...kaput, fini.
How's that for a punchline? I know, nothing funny about it...
